About 2G Robotics
2G Robotics’ designs and manufactures world leading imaging and 3D measurement equipment for underwater surveys and inspections. The core of 2G Robotics offering is our cameras, LEDs, and laser-scanners which have been used on all seven continents at extreme depths for a variety of underwater missions, including the Costa Concordia salvage operation and HMS Erebus exploration.
2GR technology consists of internally developed mechanical, electrical, and software systems. All our products are designed and built entirely in Waterloo. 2GR operates independently under ownership of Sonardyne Group.
The Position
As the Manufacturing & Quality Lead at 2GR you will be involved in developing and refining processes for assembly and test of our world-leading underwater cameras and laser-scanners. The role will include some hands-on work with the products and will require you to be a decision maker, applying your technical knowledge to improve manufacturing and quality practices. You will use your proven leadership abilities as you lead a small team of technologists in assembly, integration, and test of our low-volume / high-mix products.
The role includes working closely as a liaison with engineering on new product developments (NPI) and requires extraordinary attention to detail. You will be expected to provide feedback on designs from a manufacturability standpoint.

The Job:
- Technical subject-matter-expert in low-volume manufacturing and quality
- Triage and weed out quality issues in assembly & testing on new and existing products
- Identify and implement rigorous Quality Processes and Continuous Improvements
- Coordinate with the Supply Chain Manager on scheduling for the team and ensure on-time delivery to these schedules.
- Provide Design for Mfg input to Engineering design team based on prototype builds
- Some hands on assembly & test of electrical, mechanical and optical systems including crimping & soldering wire harnesses, connector assembly, camera focusing & calibration.
- Perform calibration procedures on underwater cameras and laser systems, and occasionally, inspect & test incoming components
- Perform basic software & firmware setups and complete system performance testing on laser-scanners, LEDs, and cameras
Must Haves:
- 3+ years experience with high-tech assembly & test (eg. electronics, optics, robotics)
- Technical of Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical, robotics, quality, or similar
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities prioritizing and managing complex workflows/projects
- Experience with practical quality control practices and Quality Management Systems
- Experience using electronics measurement tools (multimeter, oscilloscope), hand soldering, crimping and connector assembly, wiring (eg. ethernet, RS485)
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with New Product Introductions, prototyping, product development
- Experience handling, assembling, testing optical components
- Knowledge of IPC-620/610, Experience with PCBA testing, handling ESD-sensitive materials
- Experience with Linux or Python, working with point clouds and 3D computer visualization
