Job description: Marketing Manager Description and Duties:
The Marketing Manager is an essential part of the organizational team. They are responsible for the promotion of SummerWorks programming across a variety of platforms, as well as the communication of ongoing organizational activities, brand presence, promotion materials for activities and campaigns including; SummerWorks Call for Submissions, year end fundraising, and more. They will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategic marketing plan for the organization.
This role oversees the creation of all marketing and outreach collateral, as well as the delivery and distribution of these materials on a variety of platforms. The Marketing Manager works collaboratively with the SummerWorks team, artists, and partners to communicate with our audiences and reach a wider public with creativity, clarity and authenticity.

Roles and responsibilities
Concept & Planning:
- In collaboration with the SummerWorks team, develop and manage a year round marketing strategy, including plans for social media, print, web, radio, street and transit, in consultation with the SummerWorks team.
- Develop an outreach plan reflective of SummerWorks’ strategic priorities, values, and programming, in collaboration with the SummerWorks team, artists, and partners.
- Liaise with web developers, graphic designers, printers, and distribution companies on behalf of the organization.
- Liaise with artists to collect content, as well as write and edit copy as required.
- Maintain key outreach partnerships.
- Provide input on brand and concept designs, as required.
- Research and develop new opportunities for marketing and outreach, including media sponsorships and cross-promotional partnerships.
- Manage the creation and scheduling of all advertising.
- Manage the development and commissioning of unique content for the SummerWorks website, including, but not limited to blog posts, reviews, mini documentaries and artist interviews.
- Develop and manage in-house photocalls and video shoots for SummerWorks promotion and documentation, as well as Festival documentation.
Components of the Print Materials & Web:
- Collecting and organizing materials for print and web, including copy, images and logos.
- Manage the upkeep of the SummerWorks website, ensuring all content is up-to-date for the public, and necessary materials are accessible to the media.
- Overseeing the compiling of the Festival programme, tracking and relaying notes and changes as required.
- Coordinate distribution of all print materials.
Components for Online/ Social Media
- Developing and deploying social media content and advertisements across all SummerWorks and Progress social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok).
- Manage the production and distribution of all promotional trailers and highlight reels.
- Drafting copy, designing and distributing the Festival newsletter.
- Ensure SummerWorks maintains online presence and activity, and that relevant posts are retweeted and responded to.
- Collate and manage social media takeovers from engaged artists.
Management & Delivery:
- Lead the writing of all SummerWorks marketing and outreach materials, including, but not limited to: show descriptions for print, web, and socials; newsletter content; copy for advertisements and scripts for radio.
- Collaborate with SummerWorks Publicity team and partners to ensure marketing and publicity messaging is consistent across all platforms.
- Collaborate with the Accessibility Coordinator to ensure all marketing materials adhere to AODA guidelines and the organization’s accessibility protocols.
- Oversee the creation, design and distribution of all marketing and outreach materials, including, but not limited to brochures, on-site signage, posters, billboards and newsletters.
- Manage the upkeep of the SummerWorks online archive.
- Oversee the marketing and outreach budgets and timeline, including the reconciliation of the marketing budget and provide regular reporting as required.
- Design and facilitate a marketing workshop, imparting best practices to SummerWorks artists and the wider community.
Requirements: Marketing Manager: Skills and Knowledge
It is essential that the Marketing Manager should have:
- 5+ years relevant experience.
- A passion for the performing arts.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- High level organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent computer skills and social media proficiency.
- A strong, self-directed work ethic.
- Experience with digital marketing, basic web and video editing.
- Familiarity with online and print marketing platforms.
- Has excellent computer skills, including experience of using Google Suite, Excel, Slack, Zoom, and project management software (e.g. Airtable) at an advanced level; also comfortable with WordPress and HTML.
It is desirable that the Marketing Manager has:
- Knowledge of the goals and activities of SummerWorks.
- Familiarity with the Toronto performance community.
- Familiarity with online and print marketing platforms.
- Previous experience planning and executing indie and/or festival marketing campaigns.
- Experience in simple graphic design.
- Works through an anti-oppression lens.
Additional Info: This role is a fixed term employment contract ending December 17th 2021, with the possibility of extension. Salary range is pro rata.
