Job Description:

What will you do?

Lead the Sponsorship & Events team for Group Benefits

Work closely with the Director and Business Development leaders to understand the multi-year business strategy and determine marketing priorities to support and enable business plans and outcomes

Lead the planning and execution of all GB external-facing events in support of key initiatives that target all audiences

Develop project plans and manage projects with multiple work streams and stakeholders

Monitor and manage all projects to stated plans, budget constraints and timelines

Establish and document best practices for planning events

Work closely with external agencies, vendors and media colleagues to negotiate contracts, rates and best possible placements for Sun Life

Develop and implement effective, measurable B2B advertising and targeted regular industry sponsorships to support key value proposition messages

Generate “buzz” in the marketplace for our events, ads and sponsorship launches

Develop a yearly events & sponsorship plan for Group Benefits using consistent criteria for selection

Proactively identify and engage GB and cross business unit partners (Group Retirement Services, Customer Solutions) in plans for optimal leverage and cost-efficiency to extend and exploit our market penetration

Work closely with GB Marketing Leadership team to develop and deliver high-caliber, compelling Client Council events that demonstrate our commitment to customer insights and thought leadership. Leverage the information/ feedback received at these events to inform and educate key stakeholders across business units on impact to their business plans

Work closely with Director, Corporate Account Marketing to develop and manage event plans for annual Advisor Business Council and our Advisor Innovation and Education Roadshow and or Advisor Webinar Series. Work with other marketing colleagues to write and develop marketing collateral to support these events

What do you need to succeed?

A minimum of 5 year marketing and communications experience in in group benefits, insurance, financial services or a related industry

Proven experience managing events, projects, sponsorships and advertising placements

Superior writing and editing skills

Proven ability to manage to timelines and budgets without supervision

Knowledgeable about marketing functions (eg. advertising, promotion programs, communications, sponsorship) and the roles each plays in a successful marketing organization

Demonstrated knowledge of formal marketing strategy development and best practices

Experience working with outside agencies and creative consulting firms

University degree and/or Marketing, PMP designation or Communications Degree

Membership and participant in industry and/or marketing organizations

Calm under pressure

Fun and engaged team member

Business to business marketing experience

Understanding of digital communication channels

The ability to write and edit strategic pieces of communication is essential to success in this position. A demonstration of writing/editing skill will be required as part of the interview process

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
