Manager, Database Services

Leads team responsible for all aspects of Database Services to ensure that Moneris has a robust, scalable, automated, reliable and efficient database service offering on perm and cloud that supports Moneris’ mission-critical business operations.

The individual will manage the Database services offerings, including BUA, support and monitoring; as well as collaborate closely with senior management in technology and corporate business to execute on projects, operationalize technologies, establishing technology road maps, and help set standards & processes.

You will be accountable to:

  • Leads teams of DBAs and Architects responsible for all aspects of Moneris’ Database Services offerings, including establishing and managing database services offerings, governance and ownership, and SLAs of services in conjunction with application owners
  • Manages, plans, and directs daily 24×7 operations, administration, maintenance, and support efforts of Database systems and its associated technologies, including currency and capacity planning plans
  • Manage, and/or participate in cross-functional projects with business, architecture, development, and applications teams to design, engineer, deploy, and install Database systems, technologies and solutions
  • Leads teams to assessment and evaluate emerging technologies to keep Moneris aligned with current trends, sets technologies roads maps and document business cases as required.
  • Develop and manage the design, architecture, engineering, build, administration, and support of database services, platforms or technologies.
  • Leads and facilitates, in partnership, with developer teams initiatives to build and support the Database systems for core in-house gateways, transaction and payment processing systems
  • Responsible for building effective collaborative teams
  • Maintain relationships and negotiate with vendors and partners, plans and acquire database software, and manage operational costs

Your experience includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree considered an asset
  • 12+ years of experience working in a leadership or architecture position
  • Deep understanding of modern Database technologies and software development practices including public/hybrid cloud, infrastructure, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, etc.
  • Expertise in database design, performance tuning, SQL / querying languages, MS SQL Server, Azure Databricks Services, data warehouses and Big Data storage, Graph Database, database administration, etc.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present technical perspective to senior management. You will need to explain your proposals for senior management to understand their value, are persuaded to invest in them and become champions of them for you
  • Able to both collaborate with and negotiate with peers inside and outside the Technology department
  • Highly proficient in engaging/influencing audiences, passion and ability to motivate others, building relationships, to achieve broader organizational goals.
  • Extensive experience with IT process, governance and IT frameworks
  • Extensive experience in managing budgets, maintaining vendor relationships, and negotiation
  • 5+ years of technical leadership position and people management.
  • Proficiency in payment systems and the merchant acquiring business is an asset
