Night Shift Truck Driver
To provide an enhanced level of service for snow and ice control during the winter season, the City of Delta is looking for staff in a temporary assignment as a Night Shift Truck Driver. The duration of this assignment will be approximately December 2021 to February 2022 with the opportunity for extension.
This is truck driving work entailing the operation of a tandem axle truck of 18,600 Kg (41,000 lbs) G.V.W. and over. Although the main function of this position is the safe and efficient operation of a tandem axle dump truck loaded with sanding or brine attachments an incumbent may be required to monitor road conditions, load product and perform minor routine maintenance tasks. Incumbents need to exercise considerable independent judgment and action in completing assignments.
The desired candidate will be mechanically inclined and have the ability to operate the truck, loader and attachments, such as plows and sanders, while engaged in plowing snow, sanding and salting streets. Familiarity with the City of Delta’s policy and procedures for snow and ice control would be an asset. In addition you must have the ability to carry out oral and written instructions, have the ability to understand written procedures and manuals, and complete paperwork clearly and legibly. The successful applicant will possess a valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence, minimum Class 3 with air. Individuals must be available to work evenings and on weekends for the duration of the assignment. Preference may be given to applicants who possess public works experience.
