The operations engineer is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Saskatchewan aggregate business, specifically in the areas of quality control, technical sales and production.

Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and managing quality control plans for aggregate production.
  • Compiling and managing all technical information regarding our products and pits.
  • Troubleshoot and research solutions for production and quality control issues as needed.
  • Working with sales to complete technical sales submissions for tenders, bids and proposals.
  • Logistics – Supporting logistics and delivery planning and collecting/analyzing haul data.
  • Contract Management including but not limited to managing and supervising subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain overall production plan and reports, schedules, cost management systems, contracts, manage QA/QC programs and support5 continuous improvement systems.
  • Coordinate closely with other product line personnel to ensure effective quality and production targets as they relate to other segments as part of ongoing vertical integration of business.
  • This role will be responsible for achieving operational effectiveness in the areas of quality control and production/reserve efficiencies.
  • Assists in the formulation of production and quality control strategies, and executes the strategies.
  • Develop and manage a quality control program that optimizes the quality of all aggregate products while meeting CSA and customer (internal & external) requirements.
  • Manage and distribute quality control technical information as needed.
  • Coordinate capital projects within the Quality Control and Production departments as needed.
  • Leads and promotes Lafarge Health & Safety commitment with customers and haulers.
  • Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.
  • Ensures vehicle is operated and maintained according to best practices.
  • Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Lafarge operations.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Implementing and managing quality control plans for aggregate production.
  • Compiling and managing all technical information regarding our products and pits.
  • Working with sales to complete technical sales submissions for tenders, bids and proposals.
  • Develop, manage and update all mining plans.
  • Research and propose production methods to the production team to optimize our product quality and reserve effectiveness.
  • Survey aggregate inventory as needed/inventory management.
  • Work to support the aggregate team in rolling out and executing all required safety programs.
  • Cut sequence and overall pit surveying.
  • Reclamation plan submissions using Autocad.
  • Other activities include various environmental and gravel exploration activities pertinent to the overall operation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A post-secondary education is required, preferably with a degree in engineering or a related technical field

Experience and Skill Set:

  • Ideal candidate would have 1-3 years of direct work experience as an operations engineer, preferably in a mining or construction environment.
  • Experience with aggregate testing and analysis and aggregate surveying system would be a significant asset
  • Strong quality focus.
  • Results & detail oriented.
  • Excellent people skills – able to develop effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project coordination experience.
  • Effective computer and systems skills.
