The Partnership Finance and Tax Department is responsible for managing the financial affairs of the partners, as regards their investment in the partnership. This includes the financing of their capital investments, calculations of distributable income, Canadian and U.S. income tax reporting, administration of the partnership retirement plan and the processes surrounding partnership admissions and retirements.
The Manager, Partnership Finance and Tax, is a new position, recognizing the complexity of the work performed by this department and firm growth. The position will support the Director, Partnership Finance and Tax in managing all aspects of the department’s responsibilities.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support the Director, Partnership Finance and Tax by becoming an expert user of the firm’s proprietary Partnership Accounting System.
- Prepare monthly calculations of firm point value.
- Model partner distributions under various draw program methodologies.
- Responsible for reviewing partner distributions.
- Assist in the preparation and review of Canadian and U.S. partnership, corporate and trust tax compliance.
- Model taxable income at the firm and partner level and project partner ACB balances at year-end.
- Prepare communications to partners entering or retiring from the firm. Assist partners with managing the financial transactions related to these events.
- Forecast firm point value in support of the annual budgeting process.
- Support partners with the provision of information and analysis to assist their financial planning and/or requests from their personal accountants.
- Prepare T1134 information returns relating to foreign affiliates annually, U.S. withholding forms are required to be completed from time to time.
- Liase with the Firm’s external auditors.
- Uphold the firm’s code of ethics and business conduct.
- Perform other ad hoc projects, as requested
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
This position requires a university degree in Finance, Commerce or Accounting, plus a minimum of 4 years professional accounting experience, including exposure to income tax. A professional accounting designation is strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable. Proficiency with computers including MS Excel (intermediate to advanced) and comfort with ability to operate proprietary programs and familiarity with tax return preparation software is preferred.
