The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centred care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes forpatients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

Within Learning and Education Resources, the Registered Nurses Professional Development Centre (RNPDC) and the QEII Simulation Program provide clinical education, professional development and competency based education programs for team based care and person-centred care aligned with health human resource planning and health system needs in partnership with system leaders and academic partners. An IPPL evaluation and monitoring framework guides the monitoring of learning and professional development programs to ensure alignment with evidence informed practice, and the vision, mission and strategic direction of Nova Scotia Health.

Responsibilities

The Planning and Evaluation Consultant provides leadership for evidence-gathering, evaluation, planning, and knowledge translation initiatives within Learning and Education Resources for the purposes of accountability, decision-making, and quality improvement. The Planning and Evaluation Consultant contributes to program decision-making that impacts budget, staffing complement, and performance management of staff. As a confidential excluded position, the incumbent provides direction, oversight, and mentorship to the Director, Managers, Professional Practice Leaders, Program Lead Nurse Educators or other Program Leads, as well as IPPL senior leadership regarding evaluation of learning and professional development programs. The position contributes to a culture of evaluation and evidence-informed decision making through the development and implementation of tools, standardized processes, and capacity building initiatives for team members related to planning and evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in Health related discipline with an emphasis on program planning and evaluation (i.e. Public Health) required
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in planning, evaluation, quality improvement, or social science research required
  • Extensive experience providing leadership and project management of evaluation initiatives.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including government partners, organizational colleagues, and community groups.
  • Competencies in the management of people which can be demonstrated through experiences such as managing staff and leading senior level projects or program teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of methodologies related to research and evaluation, systematic literature reviews, and environmental scans.
  • Very strong information analysis, synthesis, interpretation skills.
  • Experience developing knowledge translation products.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • The following would be considered an asset: Demonstrated experience in budget management; demonstrated experience in managing staff and expertise in the development of knowledge translation and business intelligence tools (e.g. dashboards, infographics).
  • Requires knowledge of complementary supports within the NSHA (e.g. Library Services, Public Engagement, Quality and System Performance, etc.).
  • Responsibilities are provincial in scope, resulting in regular travel throughout the province.
  • Visual demands consistent with significant computer work.
  • Must be able to deal with periods of increased workload and stress as well as cope with a variety of personalities as part of a high performance team.
  • Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and within tight deadlines; be able to work in a routine office environment and moderate mental demand in assessing complex issues and creating solutions is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Salary Information

$34.75 hourly – $43.44 hourly

$67,763 – $84,708 annually
