Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company has an exciting opportunity for a very experienced Journals Portfolio Manager, for maternity cover in the team. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the commercially effective development and launch of Open Access journals in our Life Science Journals portfolio. Reporting directly to the Global Portfolio Director, you will work at an advanced level to bring additional OA expertise and publishing flair to the team, developing and managing your own portfolio of OA journals as well as supporting best practice in OA publishing across the team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Create and deliver plans to grow, develop and maximise the profitability of Life Science Journals Portfolio
  • Manage a journals portfolio to an agreed level of revenue and profitability, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives
  • Pro-actively monitor and manage the submitted articles pipeline to deliver against agreed service levels, collaborating with peer review and production colleagues, engaging with new services for pipeline management and influencing new practice
  • Develop new open access journal propositions based on strong market research and best practice approaches
  • Foster in-depth and long-term relationships with current and potential publishing partners in order to maintain and protect current portfolio and create opportunities for further acquisitions
  • Support and develop commissioning plans to drive articles, special issues and commissioned content to your journals
  • Maintain a strong external focus e.g. attending conferences, editorial board meetings etc. creating profile and relevant networks to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
  • Build, maintain and share thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on new journals and existing journal development

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of managing a portfolio/list of Journals to meet business growth objectives/or equivalent.
  • Experience in Science and Technology Publishing. Cell Biology experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working with Journals societies
  • Experience of managing P&L of Journal list/portfolio
  • Proven experience reading and interpreting appropriate financial data
  • Resilient, self-reliant and resourceful, willing to ‘go the extra mile’ to drive customer and commercial value
  • Analytical thinking and logical response under pressure
  • Solution finding and decision making
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, presentation and written
  • Strong team working skills, willing to collaborate, share knowledge and best practice to drive value
  • Willingness and motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks
