Job Description:
Sun Life Canada Distribution (SLFD) is a leading financial institution that offer Canadians holistic advice and solutions including insurance, wealth and health through a team of digitally-enabled and insights-driven human Advisors. We are on an exciting journey to transform the Advisor experience that increases ease of doing business, productivity and Client engagement. Reporting to the Director – Digital Office, the Product Owner will support Platform / Journey Owners in the delivery of digital experiences, tools and capabilities to Advisors. The Product Owner will manage activities within delivery teams and will partner with information technology (IT), SLFD, Client Experience Office (CXO) and other Sun Life business units / functions.
What will you do?
Product vision and strategy
Support Platform / Journey Owners in the design of clear product vision aligned to SLFD business strategy and outcomes
Develop and deliver product roadmaps that are aligned to user journey maps and story maps
Be accountable for product-specific objectives and key results (OKRs)
Product development and management
Continuously monitor and measure end-user behaviours and usage of the product to inform ongoing refinement of product roadmap and feature pipeline
Integrate usability studies and research into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure user-driven design. Engage with Advisors during the requirements life-cycle
Maximize the value produced by agile team by ensuring the digital product / platform meets the users’ needs and aligns to product vision
Planning and execution
Work with the Director to translate product vision into a strategic yet pragmatic roadmap that feeds into a continuously prioritized backlog(s)
Solve complex issues through in-depth research, identifying options and evaluating to recommend a proposed approach
Collaborate with the delivery team (e.g. agile, Kanban) and ensure the product delivers as intended and dynamically adjusting plans to deliver on OKRs
Review QA test plans to align with acceptance criteria, facilitate testing and review of early builds for adherence to functional requirements
Support business validation to ensure that features works as designed and ensure data integrity
Partner with LSFD Change Management to develop and execute on adoption strategy to drive Advisor usage of digital tools and capabilities
Proactively identify potential issues and risks to ensure goals are achieved
Ensure product addresses applicable legal, compliance regulatory and internal policy requirements
Stakeholder management
Identify areas of the business affected by product delivery and determine appropriate approach to engage with relevant stakeholders
Escalate and keep stakeholders informed of key issues, risks and interdependencies
Collaborate with key partners including Advisors, field management, Enterprise Services, CXO and other business units and functions (e.g. legal, compliance, risk)
Build and manage relationships with key partners, including effectively engaging executives
Communication and relationship management
Proactively stay in touch with internal partners to maintain an understanding of new developments in their areas and identify opportunities for collaboration
Tailor both written and verbal communication based on audience and situation to maximize buy-in and establish productive working relationships
What do you need to succeed?
Domain expertise
Relevant agile digital delivery experience
Strong knowledge of distribution, wealth and /or insurance
Knowledge of Salesforce an asset
Proven track record of implementation experience of systems or digital capabilities in financial services
Demonstrate knowledge of technology platforms or ability to learn about technology and digital products, experience working on technical products is a plus
Strategic thinking and analytical skills
Ability to solve problems effectively by balancing various lenses business, operations, design and technology
Possess business acumen to analyze and generate insights from OKRs as well as foundational quantitative analytical skills to support Platform / Journey Owner to develop business cases

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
