Role

The Rangeland Agrologist is responsible for delivering the Rangeland Approvals Program, including those within the Forest Reserve. This position provides professional expertise, extensive knowledge and decision making on agricultural crown land.

This is a regulatory, land management role that makes integrated, multi-faceted decisions to manage the ecological integrity of agricultural crown lands while facilitating responsible economic development, multiple-use opportunities and land allocation through consultation.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Assess and Audit crown land agriculture dispositions within the current regulatory structure
  • Issue approvals/authorizations within the current regulatory structure
  • Manage and administer Alberta’s vacant public lands and participate in integrated land management decisions to promote responsible development and protect ecological integrity
  • Evaluate the highest and best agricultural sustainable use of public lands to meet the needs of development, conservation and stewardship
  • Provide input into land management and operational policy, as well as program development, within AEP to represent district and regional interest
  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding legislation and regulations to ensure transparency of processes and programs on agricultural crown land
  • Support the Ministry by providing professional services to the people of Alberta while upholding the APS values of respect, accountability, integrity and excellence

Qualifications

The minimum requirement for this role is a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or a related field plus three years of related experience or equivalent.

Requirements for this position are;

  • Eligibility for the designation of PAg, Professional Agrologist from the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, WHMIS, Standard First Aide +CPR, AYV Safety and Defensive Driving certification

Preference will be given to those who;

  • Have understanding of ecosystem health and function,
  • Range and riparian management and health assessment,
  • Forage and livestock production, plant classification and soil science and classification.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements,
  • Awareness of all current policies, directives and guidelines and processes
  • Comprehension of contract management
  • Ability to use program specific software and geospatial processing programs

Salary

$2,524.91 to $3,462.47 bi-weekly ($65,900 to $90,370 per year)

This role is a permanent, full time position with the standard work hours of 36.25 Monday to Friday.
