Responsibilities
As a RN in a rural setting you will have the opportunity to work at the full scope of practice and will experience clients across the life span. Some advanced nursing functions include but are not limited to: cast removals, ordering x-rays, Direct IV medication administration, care of clients in all CTAS levels I-V.
Reporting the Clinical Supervisor, the Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span. He/she is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care.
The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. This individual has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice.
The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. Additionally, this person accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the Nova Scotia College of Nurses and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program and registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
- BLS-C (HCP) certification
- Current ACLS certification or willingness to obtain would be an asset
- Previous experience in a rural setting with discharge planning, case management, and bed management experience for a complete facility is an asset
- Previous experience in a gerentological nursing an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation and is a critical thinker
- Able to problem solve in a distracting fast paced environment
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Salary Information
$35.2108 – $41.4848 Hourly
$42.9366 hourly with 25 years RN experience
