JOB DESCRIPTION Duties:
Reporting to the Principal Accounting Advisor in the Controller’s department, this position specializes in providing finance support for various regulatory filings to the BC Utilities Commission and assisting with technical accounting assessments and guidance under International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Supports BC Hydro’s Revenue Requirements Application (RRA) and various other regulatory filings to the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) including drafting and coordinating preparation sections of regulatory filings assigned to the Controller’s department.
- Coordinates responses to information requests received from the BCUC or intervenors related to BC Hydro’s regulatory filings that are assigned to the Controller’s department. This includes assigning, tracking, reviewing and editing responses to intervenor requests. Coordinates the preparation of witness briefing binders and issues notes for regulatory hearings.
- Provides regulatory account information in response to questions from management and government and performs assessments regarding costs eligible for deferral within the scope of the accounts.
- Performs technical accounting assessments regarding the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) including the rate regulated accounting interim standard; drafts memos on accounting positions; provides technical guidance regarding the interpretation and application of BC Hydro accounting procedures.
- Updates and maintains BC Hydro internal accounting policy guidance and related documents.
- Prepares certain quarterly and year-end financial statement note disclosure. Prepares monthly reconciliations and investigates and resolves any anomalies. Coordinates and provides

information for the external auditors and responds to auditor questions.
Qualifications:
- Professional Accounting designation (i.e., CPA or equivalent).
- A minimum of five (5) years experience within Public Accounting or a minimum of seven (7) years industry experience in progressively more responsible finance and accounting roles with experience writing technical accounting memos.
- Experience as a manager from a large to mid-size accounting firm would be a strong asset.
- Experience working at, or with a rate regulated utility company would be considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and experience performing technical accounting assessments and preparing accounting assessment memos.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point skills.
- Ability to deliver results in a tight, deadline driven environment.
- Effective planning, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is an M&P P3 Full-Time Regular (FTR) opportunity located at our Dunsmuir location in Vancouver.
