As the Senior Electrical Advisor you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance, operations, and reliability of Fort Hills Transmission and Distribution (T&D) assets. You will also Perform electrical maintenance and operations activities safely and efficiently while providing active leadership with respect to Suncor’s EH&S policies and practices.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be an experienced Power System Electrician, Electrician, Engineering Technologist, and/or Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working on High Voltage Electrical System experience in Utilities, Mining, Oil & Gas or similar environment
- Must be a self-starter with demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- In depth knowledge of electrical principals, systems, switching and grounding procedures, the Alberta Electrical Utility Code (AEUC), the application of safety and technical requirements of the aforementioned
- Understanding of AESO regulatory requirements for ISD and the Electrical Regulatory Standards and Procedures applying to the Fort Hills ISD
- Strong understanding of commissioning & start-up, maintenance, and operations as related to the safe and efficient production of bitumen and the electrical system to drive and support
- Testing experience and understanding utility protection and control systems and schemes considered an asset. Including but not limited to transformer differential, distance protection, breaker failure schemes and program simulation/testing
- Familiar with computerized maintenance management systems (SAP)
Responsibilities:
- Execute maintenance activities including installation, troubleshooting and repairs to all systems / equipment to a high quality to ensure optimum reliability and availability
- Ensure that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to and maintain complete and accurate records associated with the technical and preventative aspects of this position
- Field inspection/verification and documenting of in-service electrical equipment
- Maintenance and testing of electrical substation equipment and apparatus using software driven testing methods and procedures to optimize efficiency and as per issued work orders
- Setting and performance qualification of microprocessor protective relays
- Functional verification of equipment, power system operating schemes, as well as SCADA/RTU and communication interface to HVCC and remote terminals
- Support planning, scheduling, and field monitoring of all maintenance activities on the area assets
- Assist in maintaining complete and accurate records associated with the technical and preventative aspects of this position
- Perform operational duties on the Transmission & Distribution System as directed by the Operator in Charge
- Emergency response support to forced outage situations as well as technical assistance and operational support for outages and outage response
- Actively participate in post event failure analysis and root cause discussions, and contribute to developing solutions
- Trouble shooting and corrective action repair of system anomalies or equipment deficiencies
- Support management and coordination of power system maintenance and turn around activities
- Provide stewardship and support to other business unit electrical departments upon Leadership request and approval
- Mentorship to other department personnel
Location and other Key Details:
- This position has been identified as safety sensitive
- The shift schedule is a 7 days on/ 7 days off rotation
- You will fly in and fly out to our Fort Hills location
