Department Overview

The Canadian Retail Finance organization is a team of professionals that provides finance and advisory support to the Canadian Personal Banking, Business Banking, Wealth and Insurance businesses that form part of the Canadian Retail Segment. Within CRF, the Performance Management and Insights (PMI) finance team supports development and achievement of Cad Retail segment level financial and strategic objectives through robust reporting and forecasting capabilities, analysis and insights. The PMI teams works closely with enterprise finance partners representing Cad Retail such as IR, ESDS, Chief Accounting and FinOps. The team supports the effectiveness of the segment and individual business CFOs through business and financial insights and advice.

Job Requirements

This position requires excellent technical and financial business acumen, strong attention to detail, and superior analytical and problem-solving skills. The chosen candidate must be an individual who is resourceful, able to work with limited supervision, contribute to a positive work environment, and manage multiple assignments with varying deadlines for senior executives of the Bank.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

  • A finance professional with a broad range of financial management and advisory experience with sound knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry and its products – specifically within the Canadian Retail space (i.e. Personal and Business Banking, Wealth, Insurance)
  • Balanced approach, ability to stay resilient under pressure, with the ability to plan, manage, and prioritize multiple responsibilities under constraining timelines. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and ad-hoc requests
  • Detail-oriented while also able to grasp and distill business unit level drivers to key highlights and key messages to senior executives
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to craft key messages, and strong interpersonal and presentation skills to facilitate working with business unit level finance partners and present findings to senior management
  • Excellent analytical skills in assessing finance / market and business issues, able to connect the dots to the P&L impact
  • A key element to this role is the ability to effectively work in teams in the group and across the bank with multiple stakeholders, with the ability to coordinate, influence and align others
  • Strong work ethic and a sense of teamwork
  • Strong skills with MS Office products, including above-average knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of Hyperion

Education and Accreditation

  • CA/CMA/CGA/MBA/CFA with 3+ years of Finance / Banking experience. Previous experience with Hyperion (Essbase), Tableau, and knowledge of FTP considered strong assets

Job Description

The Senior Analyst reports to the Senior Manager, Canadian Retail Finance, and will work with a diverse team of professionals to provide financial performance, insightful analysis and recommendations on the Bank’s largest business segment.
The role requires superior analytical skills and attention to detail, a strong appetite to learn and familiarity with Hyperion. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytically minded and detail-oriented individual to learn about our businesses and make an impact to consolidated reporting.
Specific tasks include:

  • Supporting the production of Canadian Retail results including aggregating segment P&L estimates, data retrieval and analysis, extracting critical pieces of information at the business unit level and understanding business drivers in order to develop key messages and highlights for Canadian Retail senior management
  • Supporting the annual business planning and quarterly forecasting processes through:
  • Building and maintaining appropriate financial models and forecasting methodologies
  • Building and maintaining forecast and Hyperion templates
  • Coordinating with partners and stakeholders (e.g. business finance teams, Corporate Finance, Enterprise Strategy and Decision Support, Treasury, and Risk Management) to ensure alignment of business plans/forecasts, and address questions as they arise
  • Contributing to internal forecast/Plan decks and the Plan MOR
  • Helping to execute Plan transfers on a quarterly basis
  • Managing relationships with business unit level finance teams. This includes contributing to the partner meeting agenda every month, and maintaining and distributing CAD Retail timelines
  • Be well-versed in utilizing Hyperion and system hierarchies, and leveraging that understanding to build ad-hoc queries in order to improve data flow and realize process improvements
  • Closely collaborating with other members on the PMI team
  • Performing ongoing financial and ad-hoc analysis, as applicable
