Position Overview:
Working as a key leader on the Interchange project (a clinical transformation supported by technology) and part of the Information, Communication & Technology team, the Senior Project Manager will monitor and guide key areas of this transformative initiative to achieve the goals of the project and organization.
This is what you will be doing:
Working under the direction of the Executive Director, ICT Project & Interchange, this position will conduct project management activities including but are not limited to:
Portfolio & Project Management – Works in a self-directed manner to manage a portfolio of complex corporate wide-projects across varying areas of expertise, as defined within the overall context of the project plan.
- Manages a portfolio of multiple projects of high priority, complexity, long-term duration and corporate wide scope, which span across various functional areas of HHS; usually called upon to perform in multiple roles.
- Provide support to working group chairs, core team leads, and project sponsors and their designated project leads on various initiatives and projects by managing, developing, and evaluating methods and procedures that are efficient, effective, and utilize good project management and change management practices to support assigned projects.
- Develops RFI/RFP’s and works with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies and systems as required.
Problem solving, analysis & critical thinking
- Works with stakeholders and project team to analyze project(s) for needs assessment, system selection and/or process reengineering; Makes recommendations to improve service delivery and the reengineering processes.
- Works with stakeholder groups to solve innovative business problems with available technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals, employing a full range of organizational resources to gather information, involve others, and acquire timely approvals.
- Works on unusually complex problems and is sought as a resource for resolution of unique or highly complex business problems by providing highly innovative, creative and integrated solutions that will achieve quality and work process improvements.
Communications
- Participate in the monitoring and tracking of work plans and projects; compile appropriate reporting documents and communication of reports.
- Obtaining user input and feedback through Focus Groups and individual consultation to ensure user perspective is understood and represented in all aspects of project design/development and implementation
- Liaising with stakeholders, consultants, contractors and vendors working on a variety of projects assisting with coordination of activities and representing the Hospital’s perspective to ensure project objectives and outcomes meet the stated requirements
Manages assigned project staff, including project implementation team.
- Provides strategic leadership and corporate vision to operational and project teams.
- Functions at and utilizes a high level of autonomy in determining objectives of assignment to achieve desired results, allocating staff resources, delegating assignments, scheduling/prioritizing staff workloads, determining, monitoring and reviewing team goals, performance and expectations.
Performs financial and other leadership responsibilities.
- Estimates project and/or portfolio budget
- Monitors the deliverables of each team to ensure milestone and on-budget completion.
- Develops and documents related policies and procedures.
- Works in a self-directed manner whereby work is defined within the overall context of the project plan and completed work is reviewed from a milestone objective as well as a long-term perspective.
- Reviews own work upon completion for adequacy in meeting milestone objectives, and achieving long-term desired organizational results.
This is what you need to do it:
- At minimum, completion of a Bachelor degree in health/life sciences, engineering or business administration field or recognized equivalent
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or Certificate
- Must have at least 7 years of extensive project management experience, ranging from small to large complex projects.
- Must have the ability to understand and undertake a wide variety of projects with a broad range of focus.
- Lean/process improvement exposure is desirable.
- Self-motivated, work independently and integrate well as a member of a variety of teams
- Flexible and enjoy working in a fast paced environment
- Review, synthesize, compare and summarize complex tender documents
- Manage small ($1M) to large, complex ($50 M +) projects on time and on budget,
- Liaise with a broad range of individuals from clinical and professional staff to external stakeholders
- Participate in the administration and oversight of complex contracts,
- Anticipate and take timely and appropriate action to address actual or potential issues which could place project schedules at risk
- Research of best practices for a wide variety of areas related to complex projects.
- Verbal, written communication and presentation skills essential
- Analysis and synthesis of complex contracts and other project related documents
- Interpersonal and conflict management skills and has a positive outlook
- Organizational, conceptual and strategic thinking skills and abilities
- Time management skills
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, database management, project management software
