Course description:

This course explores broad social and cultural issues in education. It will address questions about how we advance knowledge, who controls how and what we learn and what role education has in how societies are shaped, changed and reproduced. Students will evaluate the influence education can have on who we are, how we wish to live and what we aspire to as citizens in a global and digital community. This investigation will also consider how language, race, gender, class and culture intersect with teaching and learning

Estimated course enrolment: 150 (per section)

Class schedule: L9101 Thursdays 17-19:00, L9201 Wednesdays 17-19:00 (NOTE: All courses at UofT Mississauga are expected to be delivered in-person in Winter 2022. In keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the University).

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I – $8489.67 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $8869.25 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II – $9085.58 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III – $9301.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a completed a Ph.D. in Education and possess experience teaching at the Ontario primary/junior/senior level; demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogy; demonstrated ability infusing the practice of teaching with current research; current knowledge of ethical and legal principles of teaching and their application to pedagogy.

Preferred qualifications:

Candidates should also possess demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity.Preference will be given to those candidate with demonstarted ability to work with current technology and infuse technology into pedagogical practices. Preference will be given to those who possess experience teaching this course or a similar course.

Description of duties:

Preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
