Responsibilities

Reporting to the Western Zone Utilization/Patient Flow Manager, the Shift Coordinator is responsible for the Nursing Administration and the coordination of safe, efficient patient care services within the facility. Responsibilities also include ensuring staffing levels are adequate to meet patient census. The Shift Coordinator will supervise nursing staff, and coordinate all hospital and bed utilization activities in the absence of hospital administration. The Shift Coordinator works collaboratively and consultatively with patients/clients, families, management, staff, physicians, community partners and service providers to apply strategic and analytical thinking to address challenges with the ultimate goal of high quality, safe and cost effective services to better support the patient experience/outcome.

The Shift Coordinator exhibits sound professional judgement and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the Health Services Program and the Mission, Vision and Strategic Direction of Nova Scotia Health.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Program
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
  • Minimum of three (3) years medical/surgical experience or equivalent in an acute care setting
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ nursing management experience
  • Current BLS (C) HCP certification
  • ACLS is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, organization and time management skills
  • Ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal relations in dealing with patients, visitors and other health professionals
  • Ability and knowledge to match utilization needs to resources available
  • Ability to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

  • Short Assignment, Part Time 80%; 60 hours bi-weekly
  • Commencing as soon as possible; approximate 6 month assignment
  • Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and holidays

Salary Information

$36.3711 – $48.3261 hourly
