Our expectations

Under the direction of the Director, Import Logistics, the incumbent will work in collaboration with colleagues, internal customers, suppliers, carriers and customs agents in order to keep the flow of imported products moving to support business targets and do so in an efficient, and timely manner.

Your role

Operations Drayage:

  • Oversight over empty container returns and carrier chassis equipment
  • Accessorial freight cost tracking
  • Cost Control: Storage, demurrage, detention, etc…
  • Freight analysis and coordination
  • Tracking and tracing
  • Providing forecasts of inbound container volume per destination
  • Dray carrier operational management
  • Monitors/utilizes exception management for freight and takes any proactive action needed to accommodate that freight (movement, storage, etc.)
  • Manages freight delivery into Distribution Centers, Trans-load Distribution Centers, and satellite warehouses.
  • Assists in the determination / nomination of Lowe’s Canada preferred carriers.
  • Monitors dray carrier performance.
  • Manages / oversight of empty/loaded containers at distribution facilities to minimize delays and cost.
  • Maintains proper documentation for accessorial cost justification.
  • Assesses the chassis volume requirements for planning with dray carrier for Distribution Centers, monitors availability to ensure uninterrupted flow of freight.
  • Works in close collaboration with Distribution Centers to minimize impact to their operations while maintaining a continuous flow of containers while maintaining cost reduction targets

Operations International Trucking:

  • Tender creation/submission of loads to carriers / freight brokers
  • Accessorial freight cost tracking, control, and documentation retention
  • Tracking and tracing
  • Assists in the determination / nomination of Lowe’s Canada preferred carriers.
  • Manages freight delivery into Distribution Centers
  • Determines KPIs and monitors carrier performance
  • Works in collaboration with Distribution Centers
  • Freight trends analysis
  • Documentation review / creation when necessary
  • Coordination with Customs brokers
  • Internal/external customer service

Administrative:

  • Claims processing.
  • Shortage / Overage notifications (compliance)
  • Spot quote management
  • Invoice management- verifications, coding, approval requests
  • Track empty returns to minimize erroneous charges.
  • Internal customer management
  • Exception approvals
  • Support savings initiatives
  • Support cost management

The qualifications we are looking for

  • Post-secondary education in transportation (preferred) or supply chain or equivalent industry experience
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in transportation and/or supply chain
  • Good interpersonal skills to foster a team-oriented work environment.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex problems, initiative and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with CIFFA, CSCB, CBSA and a rudimentary understanding of US government import regulations.
  • Knowledge of customs classification and Canadian requirements an asset.
  • CITT (CCLP), CIFFA CCS, or CTCS certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated flexibility; ability to readily adapt to change and equate change with opportunity.
