We are looking for a Logistics Specialist who is responsible to manage freight and personnel transportation to and from the Diavik mine site, including coordinating the annual winter road campaign. This is achieved through working closely with our suppliers and departments on site and ensuring accurate data is maintained for reporting purposes.

Reporting to the Business Partner, Procurement, this role is accountable to ensure business systems data is being effectively maintained. Located in Yellowknife, you will initially be working at the Corporate Office on a 5 days on / 2 days off, however position will transition in to 10 days on x10 off or 2 weeks on x 2 weeks off rotation at the Diavik mine site.

The main responsibilities will be:

  • Leading the coordination and management of freight and passenger movement to and from the mine site through;
  • Ensuring that clear, accurate and timely reporting is achieved and maintained;
  • Working closely and communicating with suppliers and various departments on site to ensure on time delivery of goods to the mine site;
  • Working with Diavik’s contracted aviation service providers to ensure that passenger and air cargo flight schedules are maintained;
  • Monitor and manage supplier key performance indicators;
  • Raise purchase requisitions, process invoices, and monitor expenses;
  • Participate in the development and management of the logistics budget;
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Working with Diavik’s contracted ground carrier service providers in planning and developing winter road resource recruitment and load plans;
  • Lead the Winter Road Dispatch team with the following duties outlined below as required;
  • Processing truck drivers in queue for off-loading;
  • Recording accurate data into trip tickets and carrier documents;
  • Monitoring and recording data into JVWRS tracking system;
  • Providing information to warehouse shift supervisors, support services, contractors and carriers;
  • Coordinating truck/freight movement and support services;
  • Working and promoting safety within the winter road environment by;
  • Immediately report all incidents and accidents to your immediate supervisor;
  • Fostering and developing a safety culture within dispatch;
  • Identifying safety concerns to the crew and engage the crew on how to best manage these risks;
  • Adhering to all safety standards and policies;
  • Leading the daily toolbox meeting.

  • Minimum 3 years’ administrative experience with a demonstrated advancement of responsibility;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently in a results-oriented environment;
  • A strong commitment to safety;
  • Good computer skills with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Experience working in SAP and Microsoft Power BI is considered an asset;
  • Excellent oral, written and active listening skills;
  • Ability to work in busy & dynamic environment and resolve issues;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability and experience to work effectively with peoples from different cultures;
  • Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Demonstrates a dedication to the company and the position and be committed to positive health, safety, environment and quality practices;
  • Respectful, self-motivated, disciplined and understands the necessity for confidentiality in all business and personal matters.
