Senior Advisor – System/Network Architecture (National IP Core Engineering)

The Network team plans, designs, builds and operates Bell’s multi-billion dollar networks, including the continued expansion of our fibre optic network, HSPA+ and LTE — Canada’s largest and fastest wireline and wireless network.

The Role:

This career opportunity is with the National IP Core Engineering team. The selected candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for building and managing the core IP/MPLS networks that are used to connect to Bell Canada’s leading edge services including IP VPN, BID, Mobility, Fibe TV/Fibe Internet, and data centers(NHS/Q9/IaaS) as well as managing Bell’s transit, peering and caching relationships.

Job Duties/Accountabilities :

  • The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable to design, build, document, capacity manage and troubleshoot various networks. Specifics include:
  • Working with Technology Development to architect network designs and test protocols/features in the lab
  • Creating DDSs (Detailed Design Specifications) to configure various network routers within the core for additional IP core bandwidth upgrades, or establish peering/transit/CDN/Cache connections
  • Optimizing network performance and efficiency to ensure the best use of existing infrastructure.
  • Assisting service assurance teams in troubleshooting complex network issues.
  • Attending/implementing upgrades/cutovers when needed.
  • Perform analysis of network data and develop models to identify trends and predict future usage
  • Analyze and report on team results
  • Develop tools (scripts/programs) for automating routine activities
  • Building and designing underlays /overlays of the protocols for the design of Network 3.0 datacentres

Critical Qualifications/Competencies:

  • University degree in, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of:
  • IP/MPLS technologies. (BGP/LDP)
  • Routing and switching (OSPF/Segment Routing/IS-IS)
  • QoS and Traffic Engineering(FRR/RSVP)
  • Internetworking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel/Nokia, F5, Fortinet, etc .).
  • Sound knowledge on Layer 1-7 of the Network OSI Model
  • Sound knowledge on Application layer protocols and how they work (DNS, RADIUS, LDAP, DHCP … etc.)
  • Gifted thinker who is extremely resourceful and can learn new technologies on the fly, driven and proactive
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong aptitude to recognize opportunities for improvement in day-to-day work and take appropriate actions
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills and work ethic (highly motivated) to manage multiple projects/accountabilities

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies :

  • Hands-on working experience in the networking arena.
  • Familiarity with ONAP or other orchestration tools
  • Additional vendor specific training (eg. CCNA, CCDP, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIP, JNCIE) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Windows, UNIX, Linux and network management tools
  • Knowledge of automation or scripting tools (Tail-F, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Python)
  • Able to develop web based applications (JAVA, XML, HTML and REST)
  • Able to write code to automate processes and orchestrate deployments and manage code (Netconf/Yang/Tail-F)
  • Intimate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, working knowledge of other MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • System Integration experience – distributed server applications, firewall rules, load balancing, network traffic analysis.

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
