Thomson Reuters is seeking candidates for a Senior Director of Finance within our Corporate Finance team. The role will be responsible for providing financial leadership and partnership for our Product Engineering and Cyber Security functions. This role is a key member of the Operations & Technology Finance leadership team and serves as the primary Finance partner to our executives leading the Product Engineering and Cyber Security. The position oversees a team of approximately four finance professionals who are responsible for partnering with our functional leadership teams to evaluate and implement strategies for delivering services to the Enterprise and our customers in an effective and efficient manner. This position reports to the VP Finance for Technology. The position will be responsible for providing incisive value-add financial analysis and commentary, facilitating effective decision-making, and aiding in collaboration across the finance teams and with stakeholders in the company’s Global Product and other Technology Functions, and to helping lead the function through its recently-announced Change Programe as it modernizes TR’s product technology and transforms the Technology function over the next two years.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Sr Director, Finance, you will:
- Be responsible for the Product Engineering & Cyber Security budgets, through business partnership with the leaders in those two organizations
- Product Engineering and Cyber Security are organizations with combined 3k+ FTEs and $500m+ cash spend, with responsibility for; the application development and ongoing support and maintenance of TR’s product portfolio; the security of TR’s technology estate from external threats
- Be an integral member of the leadership teams of both Product Engineering and Cyber Security, providing financial advice, business insights and decision support to leadership team members
- Manage five team members, including responsibility for their career development
- Have overall responsibility for achievement of the annual budget, including delivering of financial performance that tracks closely to forecasted outcomes
- Provision of strategic financial insights into org design, location strategy, third party vendor arrangements, cost optimization of public cloud spend and other levers available to the leadership teams, to enable them to deliver their operational plans in the most cost-effective way
- Provision of product-level cost analysis, to enable better investment allocation decision-making across the TR Enterprise; support for Enterprise Prioritization Committee investment allocation processes; partnership with Product and Segment teams in building business cases to support investment allocation decisions
- Be an integral member of the following Change Program workstream teams, including workstream budget management:
- Modernization of our Content and Research technology stack
- Expanding the use of shared technology capabilities, such as Identity and Entitlements Management
- Enhancing our Cyber Security capabilities
- Work with Enterprise FP&A teams to continue to drive process efficiencies and automation in the management of the Technology cost base
- Be a member of the Operations & Technology Finance Leadership Team, with collective responsibility for achieving the O&T Finance operational goals and budget
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Sr Director, Finance if you:
- Have a Bachelor’s degree (candidates with an MBA and/or CPA or equivalent are strongly preferred)
- Have a minimum of ten years of progressive financial experience, including management roles in planning and analysis
- Have strong leadership skills with success in leading change
- Have proven capability for developing strong partnership and success in working with senior executives and their leadership teams, across multiple functions
- Can synthesize complex information and data into a crisp, clear and concise message for broad audiences to easily understand
- Have PowerPoint and Excel modelling skills and experience with the design and functionality of financial accounting, planning and reporting systems
- Can demonstrate initiative, maintains a positive attitude and is a self-starter
- Have excellent communication, leadership, and analytical abilities with a strong desire to make a positive impact on the business performance
