Department Overview

TD Finance is an integral and trusted partner to businesses across the Bank, made-up of diverse teams, strengths and capabilities contributing to TD’s overall success. Together, TD Finance helps the Bank make smart business decisions, ensure regulatory compliance and financial reporting accuracy and guard the integrity of TD’s business processes, drive efficiencies with external suppliers and manage TD’s global real estate portfolio.

Our core Finance teams help to make TD the Better Bank by working together to deliver insightful advice, meaningful reporting and professional operations The TD Finance operating model is comprised of three main parts:

  • Finance Operations – a centralized team performing a range of services such as general accounting, reporting, and transaction processing on behalf of Finance and the Enterprise
  • Business Partner – perform analytics and provide advice to the business to support strategy and decision-making
  • Specialized Functions – providing domain or knowledge-based expertise to the Enterprise

Job Requirements

  • Understand the risk profile of the work and maintain a strong controls environment and audit ready position; execute existing controls and implement new controls as needed
  • Deliver quality service; set and achieve team performance goals such as SLAs, KPIs and productivity
  • Guide team on approaches to achieve targets through periods of change and transformation
  • Coach to ensure operational problems are handled appropriately, and participate in the negotiation and resolution of complex and/or escalated issues where necessary
  • Strive for operational excellence through ongoing identification of process improvements to increase productivity, simplify and enable automation where appropriate
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Maintain own knowledge of end-to-end processes, internal / external partners and regulatory requirements; guide the team accordingly
  • Foster a climate of open and transparent communication within team, FinOps and key stakeholders
  • Perform interviews and ensure effective on-boarding and successful training of new employees.
  • Knowledge of capital markets and investment vehicles required (stocks/bonds/derivatives).
  • Builds strong and capable teams, with the skills and talent required to succeed in a challenging and rapidly changing environment
  • Provides effective day-to-day coaching and guidance to colleagues; share and teach best practices
  • Is able to find opportunities to optimize the allocation of resources across the units, taking into account workload/utilization across the team
  • Actively mentors individuals to build organizational capability
  • Be an effective coach and offer development opportunities to team members
  • Provide meaningful and timely performance reviews, including regular feedback throughout the year to team members
  • Engage and work with partner across FinOps, BP and Specialized Functions
  • Comfortable leading through change, process improvements and transformation

Specific Educational Requirements:
Undergraduate business or accounting degree
Professional Accreditation such as CPA, CFA or post graduate degree would be an asset
Experience with US GAAP is an asset
5+ years of experience in finance or accounting fields; 2+ years management experience
Strong finance acumen – understanding the business and related processes
Management experience in a finance or operations-like environment
Strong understanding of the financial and accounting standards applicable to financial institutions
§Excellent analytical skills in assessing risk, issues and challenging the status quo; adept at using productivity tools and end-user software (such as MS Office suite)
Experience in one or more of Excel, SQL, Hyperion, Alteryx, Tableau, Essbase
Skilled at leading, managing and motivating a diverse group of professionals
Brings out the best in people – strong people management with demonstrated experience in building high performing teams through use of positive influence
Good communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees
Encourages collaboration by bringing together multiple partners to align on solutions and address contending priorities

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of TD’s Finance organization. Reporting to the Senior Manager, the position is responsible to lead a multi-faceted accounting operations department with accountability for providing direction and day-to-day guidance on a range of general accounting and operational activities. We will be offering different levels of people leadership roles in Finance Operations.
Role Accountabilities:
Build and lead a diverse, high performing team of finance professionals responsible to perform general accounting functions, which includes:

  • Reporting for TDBG Financial Statements which may include Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), Supplemental Information, or certain Capital and Liquidity Reporting.
  • Production and preparation of Financial, Regulatory or Management Reporting for business lines, including data gathering, cleansing and validation
  • Gathering of manual and system generated data to prepare, review and post journal entries and required transactions
  • Preparation and review account reconciliations
  • Performing a variety of accounting functions which may include cost accounting, inter and intra segment allocations, tax and fixed asset accounting
  • Analysis and investigation of financials

As with any role in the accounting industry, heavy scheduling periods are expected during the busy times of month end, quarter end and year end. During these periods, additional hours are expected of some roles across our teams. Successful candidates have the opportunity to participate in a voluntary modified scheduling arrangement where they may elect to work up to 12 scheduled hours per day during these peak periods, with specific consecutive days off scheduled over a less busy period of the month. The Hiring Manager will share examples of a voluntary modified schedule for candidates who are interested.
