Job description: Our client is an iconic, third generation Canadian family business retailer, whose brand and marketing messages are instantly recognizable to shoppers. They have built a name synonymous with great value and superb customer service.

Despite the current challenging trading conditions, the business has done exceptionally well by executing a successful e-commerce strategy and expanding sales in new channels.

The company is in need of a transformational Finance Leader to join the leadership team and assume the mantle following a long-standing team member’s retirement. This is a hands-on role with responsibilities which will extend beyond the finance function. In this highly entrepreneurial environment, the titles of the leadership team are not meant to put limits on the role and its responsibilities; rather, it is the launching pad for broader contributions to business success, evolving with the planned growth of the business. To this end, there are a number of exciting projects imminent including geographic expansion and a head office relocation.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

• A CPA or equivalent designation.
• An experienced Finance and Accounting leader, combining a hands-on operational bent with broad business acumen.
• Attitude and drive will be key for this role – thinking and behaving with an ownership mindset; a focus on superb customer service; a “no job is too small” attitude; and a drive for continuous improvement will all be signs that this could be a fit for you.
• Retail experience will be valuable but is not a must-have. Relevant experience could include distribution, logistics, or perhaps manufacturing.
• Evidence of strong relationship-building skills, cross-functional leadership capabilities and high emotional intelligence will be valued.
