Job description: The Canadian Structured Finance group of DBRS Morningstar is seeking a ratings analyst with strong quantitative and analytical skills at the Vice President level. The role is based in Toronto and will be focused on auto, equipment and trade receivables asset classes. The successful candidate will conduct all activities required to assign new ratings on Canadian ABS and ABCP transactions in the relevant asset classes, including collateral assessment, cash flow analysis, legal document review and drafting of press releases and rating reports. The candidate should be willing to work in an environment with a strong focus on teamwork and have a strong work ethic, an analytical mindset and attention to detail. The successful candidate should possess the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work with all levels of professionals, executives and external contacts. The role offers wide opportunities to develop structured finance experience in a client facing environment.
Responsibility:
- Act as lead analyst on securitization transactions, particularly those backed by retail auto loans/leases, fleet leases, equipment loans/leases, rental fleets, and trade receivables
o Lead deal team effectively to complete all relevant analysis
o Perform transaction analysis including review of collateral, deal structure and legal documentation
o Act as point of contact with issuer
o Attend and conduct originator/servicer operational reviews
o Evaluate transaction proposals in accordance with DBRS Morningstar’s methodologies and criteria
o Present rating analysis to rating committee
o Prepare press releases, rating reports and related disclosures
o Coordinate with the Editorial department for publishing
o Communicate DBRS Morningstar’s rating rationale to external stakeholders such as issuers and investors
- Lead and contribute to team discussions, research reports, and industry studies
- Review and present potential methodology updates and developments to criteria committee
- Develop and enhance analytical approaches as needed
- Ensure compliance of regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures
- Build and maintain relationships with bankers, investors and originators
- Expand coverage to other asset classes over time
- Assist other analytical groups within DBRS Morningstar as needed
- Assist in the training and development of other analysts on the team
Requirements:
- Completion of bachelor’s degree in finance, math, economics, computer science, engineering, or other related field
- Relevant experience in structured finance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office programs
- Robust understanding of credit and legal aspects of Canadian ABS and ABCP transactions
- Strong understanding of auto, equipment and trade receivables finance sectors
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a high attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Self-starter and team player with demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- VBA, Python or other basic programming skills
- Familiarity with Bloomberg would be an asset
- CFA designation would be an asset
- Master’s degree in finance, math, economics, computer science or any other related field would be an asset
